About Us
Meet Mike Brooks
Bamboo rod makers are an interesting group of
people. And Mike is no exception. Mike is happily
married with three children and lives on the
McKenzie River in Coburg, Oregon.
Mike’s interests include Taekwondo and Hopkido
(complete with black belts), fly fishing and fly tying,
bamboo rod making, mathematics (transfinite
number and set theories, multi-valued/"fuzzy"
logics), general reading, and foreign languages (Mike
is fluent in German and classical Greek and has
more than a basic understanding of Swedish and
Korean). Mike is a licensed Amateur Radio Operator
in both Europe (CEPT 2 license, Sweden, SM6WRM)
and the U.S (KC7CKT). Add several U.S. patents to
his credit (including several patents with the bar
code system) and you discover that Mike is truly a
renaissance man.
Mike is an excellent fly fisherman and fly tier. He has
trout and steelhead flies on permanent display in the
Smithsonian Museum, the American Museum of Fly
Fishing, and several other museums in North
America and Europe. Mike tied flies for the famous
Leonard Company and has won several major
awards with his flies (including the prestigious
International Fly Tying Contest ~~ Professional
Division). Check out the page on Mike’s Classic
Flies for examples of his work.
